What is pine nematode disease?

Pine nematode disease is a fatal disease that kills pine trees. It is caused by pine nematode, a thread-like nematode measuring about 1 mm, and is transmitted to trees through intermediary insects such as the pine beetle and the northern pine beetle.

symptoms of pine nematode disease

Leaves: Yellowing and falling leaves
Sufi: Sufi cracked and bleached

Damage from pine nematode disease

Pine nematode disease is causing great damage to East Asia, including Korea, Japan, and China. It first occurred in Korea in 1984 and has spread throughout the country until now. The death of pine trees from nematode disease destroys the ecosystem of forests and causes economic losses.

Control of pine nematode disease

Prevention is important because pine nematode disease is not treatable.

Remove infected trees: If infected trees are found, remove them immediately and incinerate them
Mediated insect control: Mediated insect control, such as the pine beetle and the northern pine beetle
Forest management: Maintaining pine health through forest management
